Hypnotic Vocals, ethereal pads, and the smooth rush of deep grooves and with it an entirely new wave of retro-futuristic house music. At the forefront is Bangkok-based DJ/producer Sunju Hargun, aka Moodwax.
A fresh face on the scene, he specializes in an unabashedly nostalgic sound that creatively appropriates aspects of UK Head luminaries like Jimpster and Shur i Kan. while staying true to the computer-driven aesthetic of the present.
Growing up with a somewhat “unconventional” musical background in his parental influences than most uber-cool house producers these days would admit, Moodwax somehow happened upon kindred spirits offering a sound alien to his own influences in the form of electronic music producers, an insatiable fascination from an early age which he confesses still holds the same childlike allure and intrigue now as it did back then.
What started with some Personal bootlegs online for free led to gaining some very positive exposure for Moodwax, and from then has seen original Releases on Innocent Music, Electronique Digital and Malfunktion Deep After the success for his recent “Wish or Love EP”, Caught Massive Attention from Toolroom Owner “Mark Knight” which received air play on the Toolroom Podcast show and made it to “Killer Cut selection a week after.Followed up to a Guest Mix from Moodwax on the Toolroom Radio end of December 2012, Making 2013 look Promising for the Bangkok based DJ/Producer.
With evocative and emotive productions showcasing a stripped back, classic feel, Moodwax’s sounds are a throwback to the lost generation of smoother groove-makers. His DJ charts and sets also showcase a wide and all-encompassing appreciation for all things electronic; the archetypal producer/DJ. The man himself prefers not to be bogged down in the constantly sinking marsh of pigeon-holing and sub-genres which are polluting the contemporary electronic music industry; make no mistake about it this is unashamedly soulful, infectious House music in it’s most purest form.
